at the Brightmoor Makerspace

The Work

The Brightmoor Makerspace is the woodshop and makerspace of Detroit Community School. In the summer, they run a six-week long program for the high school students, where they can learn and practice carpentry skills.

My Role

As an assistant facilitator, my role was to:

  1. Support safe learning of shop tools

  2. Assist in various group builds, including the construction of two large outdoor stages, a water catchment system, and various benches and tables

  3. Provide design and manufacturing advice for students’ personal wood projects
